Information About Parole

Parole is when an individual is released from prison and supervised in the community by a parole agent, who is assigned by the Department of Corrections. The person must follow the conditions of their parole agreement to remain in the community.

The board sets conditions of parole that are designed to help the person overcome factors that have contributed to their past criminal behavior and to protect the victim and society. The factors may include: drug and alcohol treatment, mental health therapy, completion of a halfway house program, no consumption of alcohol, electronic monitoring (EM), no contact with victims or any other conditions the Board finds appropriate. Also, the Utah Department of Public Safety maintains a Sex Offender Registry for parolees convicted of a sex offense.
